The "Japan Model": Crash and Burn?

As you can see, the Oracle and The Asian Intelligence Review have taken on a new approach. We are now hosting other writers than our own.

In this case, it is Japan-based analyst and PR expert Julian Macfarlane who has written an extensively documented and researched article for Medium.Com about the "Japan Model".

The "Japan Model" has been widely touted in the mainstream Western media for its "success" in handling the coronavirus.  But in fact the "Japan Model" doesn't really exist. At least, not as government policy.

Rather, the idea that Japan has some "special" method of handling the virus is creation of the foreign press pandering to Western exoticism and  relying on government statistics, even though there is considerable doubt about their meaningfulness, if not their accuracy.

The truth is that Japan is just letting the virus have its way with the population,   Whereas China and a few other countries have been successful in controlling the contagion, the Japanese have not, eschewing mass testing and therefore efficacious contact tracing, isolation and control.   The  virus will be with the Japanese at least until there is an effective vaccine and treatments available -- maybe next year.  Yet, the Abe Administration and Tokyo government still hope to host the Olympics!

The "Japan Model" is epidemiologically nonsense. Only the "Chinese Model" actually works, once the contagion has spread in a large population..
